A Fringe Quickie (#186) with ‘¡Ay! Papi: Jilberto Soto’

Questions answered by Jilberto Soto.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

The obvious one is flyering the SH*T out of Edinburgh and doing as many compilation shows as humanly possible. I’ll even talk to straight people, which I normally avoid. Who knows? If ticket sales get bad enough, I might take my shirt off.

Q2: If your show walked into a cocktail bar, what would it order?

It’s Mexican, so a top-shelf tequila shot, salt on its hand, with a lime chaser. Then when that’s done, let’s do one more for good luck. I know, I know—it’s a cocktail bar. But we’re not fancy here.

Q3: If you brought this show home for the holidays, how would your parents react to them?

My dad probably wouldn’t show up, he skipped my wedding too. My mom would insist everything’s fine. My younger brothers would be crying with laughter. My older brother would just be crying. My husband would be deeply uncomfortable, & I’d be thrilled because that’s great material.

Q4: If all the shows running right now were at a massive Fringe house party, what is your show doing?

Cornering strangers in the kitchen and telling them a deeply personal story they didn’t ask for. Somehow they’re laughing, someone starts crying, and by the end of the night we’re all doing tequila shots.
