A Fringe Quickie (#182) with ‘A Forgotten Woman: Mrs Oscar Wilde’

Questions answered by Lexi Wolfe.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Does saying that those who come see it may get a discount when the audioplay comes out count? Or is that too retrospective? A discount for something Victoriana? I’d be all over that.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

A lot of people don’t like that we mention Oscar Wilde, one of the most famous gay avatars, instigated ‘relations’ with women besides Constance, dismantling the idea she was a beard. (Seriously, he did, it’s true).

Q3: The Fringe is horribly expensive. How are you financing this run? Did you remortgage your house, sell your granny, or start an illicit side hustle?

I am 5’2”, but identify as a threat. I threaten to bring ruin the like of which Constance experienced upon them, and they pay me to go away. It’s fine, it’s for the arts.

Q4: If you brought this show home for the holidays, how would your parents react to them?

There’d be a slow dawning realisation that this show had been living in the house all along. Like a beautiful ghost with a tragic backstory: occasionally opening doors on its own, appearing in mirrors, and becoming part of the family once we stopped starting when they appeared.
