A Fringe Quickie (#177) with ‘An American (Not) in Paris’

Questions answered by Liv Rocklin.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

I’m still putting ads in physical newspapers. It’s usually listed next to the obituaries, so it’s a nice pick me up. I get 75+ year olds at my shows saying I’m famous from the paper. Then they try to set me up with their grandsons. I’m trying to get an audience and a husband.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

She’s a Gen-Zer culturally appropriating millennials! Does she even know what it MEANS to Live, Laugh, and Love? How hard millennials FOUGHT to Live, Laugh, and Love?? Is she parodying Britney? SHE WAS TOO YOUNG TO FREE BRITNEY. Get back to TikTok dances, kid.

Q3: All shows will have their tough days. What sophisticated self-care strategies will you employ to survive?

Coming from New York City, I’m extremely skilled at crying in public and not feeling self-conscious about it. So this really frees me up to not waste any time because I can just keep flyering while I’m cryering. That was meant to rhyme with flyering. See!? Millennial behaviour.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

They’ll mostly be like… I hope that girl’s okay? The show was so fun! But damn, is she like… good? Once after a show, a girl came up to me and said “I so related to everything you said. I was thinking, Wow, she’s soooo me, except SHE’S like, unwell!” Anyway, she bought a sticker.
