A Fringe Quickie (#179) with ‘The Song of the Ice’

Questions answered by Steve Garrett.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

I could dress as a penguin and parade along the Royal Mile, or tow a melting iceberg up the Water of Leith. But for now I will stick with harassing my mailing list, investing in advertising, employing a top communications agency and enlisting help from The Quintessential Review.

Q2: If your show walked into a cocktail bar, what would it order?

Anything on the rocks. But it’s not about the drink, it’s about the ice cubes, fresh from Antarctica, hundreds of thousands of years old, pinging and popping as they melt and gas bubbles of ancient air are rereleased.

Q3: We all have weird pre-performance rituals. What is yours, and how confused would a normal person be if they walked in on you doing it?

Rushing to set up multiple guitar effects, amplifier, projector and screen, then retreating to a calm ‘green room’ featuring original calligraphy by Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh. An observer might be concerned about the contrast between frenzied activity and quiet contemplation.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

So far, reviews have said: ‘Brilliantly conceived and executed thoughtful masterpiece’, ‘wonderful connection between music and nature’, ’relaxing, hypnotic, thought-provoking’, ’ a wonderful show’ , ”…lovely and haunting and startling’.
