A Fringe Quickie (#328) with ‘Sanctuary’

Questions answered by Jacob Sparrow.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

We plan to raise and rear a herd of cows and then extensively train them to perform a bovine ballet whilst distributing flyers and show information to onlookers and ticket buyers. We haven’t started work on this yet but I think we still have enough time.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

Maybe it wasn’t ethical to train all those cows who will now have hopes of being actors, but roles and representation for cows in theatre are pretty limited so they might never be able to live out their dreams.

Q3: The Fringe is horribly expensive. How are you financing this run? Did you remortgage your house, sell your granny, or start an illicit side hustle?

Sanctuary won the inaugural Leodis Prize and fully produced by Daniel Hinchliffe and Leodis in association with Pleasance Theatre Trust. Therefore, there will be enough remaining to afford the cow training.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Probably that they did not expect there to be a storyline about cows in this intergenerational queer play, but actually the cows were pretty important.
