A Fringe Quickie (#98) with ‘By a Thread’

Questions answered by Latonya Wigginton.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

We are a circus company so I think there will definitely be some flyering bets happening like “If I hold this handstand for a minute will you buy a ticket to the show?” or “how many backsaults do I need to do in a row before you buy a ticket?” I can feel the fatigue already!

Q2: All shows will have their tough days. What sophisticated self-care strategies will you employ to survive?

Jar protein…it’s where you store a scoop of protein powder in an old (clean) peanut butter jar and then when your show is finished just add water and shake for a great post-show recovery snack. I know protein shakers exist but for the full fringe experience you gotta use the jar!

Q3: We all have weird pre-performance rituals. What is yours, and how confused would a normal person be if they walked in on you doing it?

We used to put hands in the middle and say “quack quack QUACK” like the Mighty Ducks, then that morphed into saying “bang bang BANG” and then changed to singing a few bars of a song that is related to the day of the week/city we are in, and we all yell bang when we’ve finished

Q4: If all the shows running right now were at a massive Fringe house party, what is your show doing?

Well we are all nerds, so probably playing DnD in a quiet corner of the house. If you like card games we can often be found playing Cambio or Cribbage in the artist bar. Like multiple times a week we are just using the booth space to play cards.
