A Fringe Quickie (#210) with ‘The Ghost of White Hart Lane’

Questions answered by Martin Murphy.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

We’re lucky that this play really speaks to the people of Edinburgh as it tells the extraordinary story of John White, who grew up nearby. We’re hoping to use local word of mouth to help this story reach as many people as possible.

Q2: The Fringe is horribly expensive. How are you financing this run? Did you remortgage your house, sell your granny, or start an illicit side hustle?

We’ve been lucky in that so many people donated to help this extraordinary real life story come to the Fringe. John White’s life, and tragic death by lightning strike, is something that seems to resonate with many who have helped us put this on.

Q3: If you brought this show home for the holidays, how would your parents react to them?

I think they would welcome it in, make it a nice up of tea, and then feed it up only pausing the biscuits to listen to it’s amazing story.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

I know from the responses we’ve had from audiences so far that this isn’t just a show you remember the next day, this play changes the way you see the world in general and will hopefully help many in terms of dealing with grief and mental health, with humour at the forefront.
