A Fringe Quickie (#423) with ‘He Wants Kids, She Doesn’t’

Questions answered by Emma Tsoi.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Flyering on the Royal Mile for 15 hours a day with tears in my eyes from every rejection I face and overthinking every social interaction to the point where I’m too burnt out to do the actual show. And more flyering. But i will never sell my body, because my body is a temple.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

Too many sex jokes made by an Asian woman on stage per minute. I’m supposed to be a doctor, not a clown. My parents didn’t sacrifice their lives for Ling Ling to be a fake pregnant character for laughs. I’m bringing dishonour to my country, my culture and my ancestors.

Q3: The Fringe is horribly expensive. How are you financing this run? Did you remortgage your house, sell your granny, or start an illicit side hustle?

I am delaying my plans of having kids of my own in order to finance “He Wants Kids, She Doesn’t”. At least my kids will hear that Mummy performed at Edinburgh Fringe before they were born. I should just do expensive things forever instead of having kids. Hence the show title.

Q4: If you brought this show home for the holidays, how would your parents react to them?

The show’s Grandmother talks about microwaving frozen embryos to defrost them quickly, and a pregnant mother calls her baby a “stinky-ass milk-scented bitch”. My parents would disown me, so I’m grateful that they’re not going to watch it. I want to be included in their will.
