A Fringe Quickie (#244) with ‘The Great Chevalier’

Questions answered by Mr Chevalier.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Desperation is for dance companies in Liechtenstein. However, I have authorised a procession of my beloved pigeons, directly from The Grand-Ducal Roost, at Summerhall on the Festival’s opening day. This is obviously more a gift to the people of Scotland than a marketing gimmick.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

The disrespect of the Press is a disgrace – you should know better. I make myself clear on this for the final time; I have never promoted my vineyard, Domaine de la Crinière d’Or, whilst with the company in Japan. The deal with Haneda Airport Executive Lounge was a coincidence.

Q3: The Fringe is horribly expensive. How are you financing this run? Did you remortgage your house, sell your granny, or start an illicit side hustle?

I have neither the time nor the energy to think about these things. My friends at Kultur | lx and the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture believe in my work absolutely. I must focus on the art; although the company sells my beloved Salomon trainers (signed) once I have worn them.

Q4: We all have weird pre-performance rituals. What is yours, and how confused would a normal person be if they walked in on you doing it?

Before a performance, I recite the titles of my works in chronological order into a mirror. I then study photographs of my pigeons and ask whether they would respect tonight’s performance within the context of my oeuvre. My Assistant watches me and does not think it strange.
