A Fringe Quickie (#47) with ’28-06-1980 Or How A Fake Version of Deep Purple Brought Rock Music To Mexico’

Questions answered by Steve McLean.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Knowing that my venue is a record shop, I spent a year writing a 300 page book using over 200 sources about a music related topic. I then turned a chapter of that book into an Fringe show. I literally wrote the show to fit a venue. That’s how committed I am to marketing.

Q2: If your show walked into a cocktail bar, what would it order?

In Mexico? Tequila. In Scotland Buckfast. At a 1980s Monsters of Rock Festival? Snakebite… But not a Snakebite and blackcurrant, which is training alcohol.

Q3: All shows will have their tough days. What sophisticated self-care strategies will you employ to survive?

A tattie dog from Pie Maker. I honestly don’t think I’d come back every year if it wasn’t for the TD. It’s a hot dog, wrapped in mashed potato and then deep fried! A TATTY DOG CURES ALL!….. Except heart disease.

Q4: If your show suddenly developed a massive ego and became the biggest diva in the 2026 Fringe, what absurd, hyper-specific item would be mandatory on its dressing room rider?

I know I’ve mentioned tattie dogs already,.. but…In the name of rock’n’roll I’ll have the tattie dogs delivered by strippers but this isn’t a covert way to get strippers. I just dogs. The strippers can have the rest of the night off after they deliver them.
