This #SNAPCHATZ edition presents an engaging variety of performances that blend humour, personal journeys, queer joy, and insightful poetry, reflecting the creative diversity of the Fringe. In this vibrant episode, we present you ‘Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story,’ a playful exploration of queer joy by Linus Karp, ‘Boy Out The City,’ a captivating personal journey across time and space by Declan Bennett, ‘Verses for a WTF World,’ a thoughtful and introspective poetic exploration of our world by Michael Broussard and finally ‘Dirty Laundry: Spin Off,’ a humor-infused satirical take on modern trends from Meat and Two Veg/Cambridge Footlights.
#SNAPCHATZ is simple. I challenge all 2023 Fringe performers & creators to answer 3 questions and to sell you, dear reader, their show. Their answers are tossed into a digital hat, and published in quick-read trios. It’s a Fringe goer’s fastest and safest (no guerilla flyering!) way to find someone, or something, new.

Who are you/what is your show?
Hello! My name is Linus Karp (he/him) and I am taking my two shows to the fringe: “Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story” and “how to live a jellicle life: life lessons from the 2019 hit movie musical ‘cats'”.
What sets your show apart from the rest?
Both are shows full of queer joy – I find that so often queer stories are tragic, and while it’s obviously important to highlight stories about topics like AIDS, conversion therapy and queerphobia, it’s equally important to uplift and show queer joy. Both shows are peppered with pop culture, stupidity and audience interaction. I dare say one is the most jellicle show of the fringe and the other one depicts our current monarchs in a way no other show does – you’ll have to guess yourself which is which…
Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?
To have Diana herself watch the show would be the ultimate, unachievable dream – having toured the show it is always the highest compliment when an audience member says “Diana would’ve loved this” after the show. I do believe the queerness, silliness, costume changes and depictions of her ex-husband would make her laugh. As she can’t be there, I want for the show to reach as many queer people as possible. In regards to the jellicle show, as Judi Dench is appearing at this year’s festival, maybe she should come along for a jellicle time…

Boy Out The City
Who are you/what is your show?
Me? Declan Bennett. My show? Boy Out The City – An electric, intoxicating one man tour de force that flys through the streets of 80’s Coventry, 90’s Soho and 00’s New York. And Watlington. Naturally.
What sets your show apart from the rest?
Autobiographical but universal in its nature, it has a killer soundtrack, a gripping narrative and a poetic prose that will bewitch your ears. It may be the only show ever to appear at the Fringe that has an entire section devoted to Sister Act 2. Which obviously I want written on my tombstone.
Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?
Whoopi Goldberg. Obvs. Lauryn Hill. Obvs. The genius behind Hobbycraft grabs a seat. Shakespeare overhears someone talking about the words and joins the queue outside. Salt N Pepa, Joan Rivers, Dawn French and Mitch Hedgeberg make up the front row and the Catholic priest I knew growing up tries to get in but I tell him there’s no tickets left. No. Actually I put him smack bang in the middle cos he’s got some stuff he really needs to hear.

What sets your show apart from the rest?
Connecting with the audience and making something together is what the show is all about.

People with critical minds and a love for the silliness that comes with a working brain.
Dirty Laundry: Spin Off
Who are you/what is your show?
We are Emily, Robbie and Maddie, three best friends and former housemates who wrote and performed sketches together all through uni with the Cambridge Footlights. After a very successful 2022 Fringe run with our show, Dirty Laundry, we are back with ‘Dirty Laundry: Spin Off’ (get it?) which sees us reunite for another mixed load of sketches, characters and comedy songs.
What sets your show apart from the rest?
Well, people often say comedy is subjective, and our show is objectively really funny. Our sketches are original, daring, if a little bit wacky. From a send-up of female DJ collectives to a sketch that pokes fun at therapy language, we love to satirize and pull the absurdities out of modern day trends and behaviors. We strive to make comedy that can be enjoyed by a range of people. Whether you’re 16 or 102, we guarantee you a chuckle!

The entire panel of Dragons Den. At the end they will invest all of their money in us. A risk worth taking.
