A Fringe Quickie (#356) with ‘SLAYERS’

Questions answered by Corinne Salisbury.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Being No. 1 cheerleader for other great Scottish shows at the Fringe- not only in hope of reciprocal plugs, honest.. but to help the world see our collective excellence beyond shortbread and Prudencia Hart. Also messaging all my whatsapp groups. That way I spam most of Edinburgh.

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

It’s a weird phrase, cancel culture, always felt a bit sci-fi and overblown. But yeah, fully prepared that not everyone will like a play where a mother acts destructively, where her child embraces violence, where there’s fight scenes but it doesn’t feel kickass. And that’s okay.

Q3: All shows will have their tough days. What sophisticated self-care strategies will you employ to survive?

Me, the performer & the director are all mums of pre-teen daughters. And all live in Edinburgh/Glasgow so go home to our kids every night. So it’s gonna be a lot of deep breathing, coffee drinking, and meditative laundry-sorting. Maybe some kickboxing to let off steam. And shots?

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Their bodies may ache from being gripped by this story for an hour; from the workout of all this emotion. They’ll be wrung out, buzzing and a little bit cracked open. They might not know exactly what happened. They might want to hit something. They might want to call their mums.
