A Fringe Quickie (#166) with ‘Crying At My Podiatrist’

Questions answered by Julia Atkin.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

Creating an OnlyFans account for a hyper specific audience: sad weirdos with a fetish for missing toenails. I know you’re out there!

Q2: Cancel culture has finally come for your show. What sins has it committed?

Bad mouthing the suicide hotline, bloody toe photos with no trigger warnings, sickly sweet sincerity, and one potentially offensive Christmas joke.

Q3: We all have weird pre-performance rituals. What is yours, and how confused would a normal person be if they walked in on you doing it?

Fitzmaurice tremoring, which is a vocal technique that looks (and sounds) like I am possessed by a demon…and really enjoying it. Like the diner scene from When Harry Met Sally, but with less words and more writhing.

Q4: If all the shows running right now were at a massive Fringe house party, what is your show doing?

She looks hammered but is stone cold sober. She’s asking you about your past lives. She’s feeding the stray cats in the backyard. She’s on the dance floor for one song from the early 2000s. She’s crying, no—she’s laughing. She’s in bed by 11pm.
