A Fringe Quickie (#115) with ‘Gearóid Farrelly: No Pressure’

Questions answered by Gearóid Farrelly.

Q1: Aside from this Quickie, what is the most desperate marketing tactic you plan on using to get bums in seats this August? 280 chars

I ask audiences to send friends – unless they’re terrible, then I thank them for coming to the last show of the run. I’ve learned not to flyer; I put people off. Peak desperation is asking family. They’ll ring asking where to park two minutes before the show.

Q2: If your show walked into a cocktail bar, what would it order?

A Piña Colada, sweet but it packs a punch!

Q3: All shows will have their tough days. What sophisticated self-care strategies will you employ to survive?

Blast Minute Taker’s The Oblivion—my current pop banger album. Eat at Mosque Kitchen. I don’t get too upset about quiet gigs; Fringe teaches you that a Tuesday lunchtime crowd may smile before they laugh. I love winning them over, and I rarely dwell on a tough show after.

Q4: We all have weird pre-performance rituals. What is yours, and how confused would a normal person be if they walked in on you doing it?

Check my zip is up, brush my teeth, check my zip is up, set my watch, check my zip is up… check I have a prop in use in my pocket… run back to the dressing room to get the prop, check my zip is up. Walk on!
