Baby Lasagna, aka Croatian singer Marko Purišic, was to be my last review of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. Unfortunately, Baby Lasagna didn’t get the Fringe memo that time is short, but Fringe shows are many.
Therefore, when I rocked up 10 minutes after its 7pm listed kick-off – having scuttled from my last review at the Pleasance Courtyard – I anticipated being late. That’s fine, thought I, a critic doesn’t need to be at the front, and getting away first won’t hurt in terms of making good time to my well-earned bed!
I needn’t have worried, not only was I not late – I was far, far too early. For, taped to the wall were A4 sheets of paper explaining that Baby Lasagna wouldn’t take the stage till 9pm, whilst the previously unannounced support act would get going around 7:50pm.
Reader, I may be a huge fan of Eurovision, but Fringe time is precious, and there was no universe in which I was going to hang about doing nothing when there were reviews in need of writing. So I left.
Honestly, La Belle Angele should know better than to leave the event page absolutely devoid of details, particularly during August. True, the given run-time from 7pm – 10pm suggested a very long concert, but I simply presumed a lot of padding and/or time to party/dance afterwards.
It’s a mistake I won’t make again should La Belle schedule another concert during August.
