Questions answered by Lily Blumkin.
Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?
Easy. Electric Lady by Janelle Monae. It’s upbeat, funky, and makes me feel damn GOOD! I listen to this song before every audition, show, job interview, gynecological examination. Basically, if there’s a situation where I need to appear my best, Electric Lady gets me there.
Q2: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?
At one point in my show, I talk about learning to masturbate in my childhood bedroom. My grandma would absolutely love that part. The proudest moment in every Nana’s life is hearing about their grandkids exploring their bodies, right?
Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?
Are you the clump of hair I leave on the wall in the middle of my showers? Because I am creating elaborate fantasies of you telling me you’re in love with me. This makes sense if you see the show, I promise.
Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?
Nice Try takes place in my childhood bedroom as I’m packing it up before my parents sell our house. Because of its nostalgic sense of innocence, my show would order a Bud Light Lime-a-Rita. That was the first drink I had at 16. It was grotesque, bubbly, and strange. Just like me!
