Edinburgh’s Christmas kicks off next Friday, 15 November, and runs through to 4 December. With seven weeks of festive fun ahead, you’ll be glad to know of two great ways to save your cash! Edinburgh locals with an EH postcode can save 20%, whilst those with kids can snag a family ticket for extra value.
It can be a bit tricky to figure out what qualifies and how to claim, but don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!
Here’s everything you need to know.
How to claim your 20% EH postcode discount
Online
- Create an account with an eligible EH postcode.
- Add eligible tickets to your basket (check our guide below for details on where discounts apply).
- Pay using a payment card registered to an eligible EH postcode.
In-person
- Bring proof of address that you live at an eligible postcode.
- At a box office or ride, ask for the EH local resident discount.

Four things you need to know about Edinburgh’s Christmas ticket discounts
1) EH postcode discount eligibility
All 55 EH postcodes in the Edinburgh area qualify for the 20% EH postcode discount. You can confirm your postcode eligibility here.
2) Family ticket details
Family tickets are valid for four people, with either two adults and two children, OR one adult and three children. Children must be under 18 to be eligible for family tickets.
3) No combining discounts
Discounts cannot be combined (we tried), meaning the 20% EH postcode discount cannot be applied to family tickets.
4) Booking fees
A booking fee of £1.25 applies to each individual ticket. For family tickets (counted as four individual tickets), the total booking fee is £5.

Christmas Market (East Princes Street Gardens, near Waverley)
For those with a head for heights, this is where you can find the LNER Big Wheel and the 80-metre-high Around the World Starflyer.

Festive Family Funfair (West Princes Street Gardens, near Castle)
The Festive Family Funfair returns to West Princes Street Gardens, with rides for children young and old. Unfortunately, the website currently lacks any further information.
- EH postcode discount? The information we’ve received so far says that the 20% EH postcode discount applies to “fairground rides”. When we learn more, we’ll update this information.
St Andrews Square
Santa and his elves return to St Andrews Square Garden with Santa’s Stories in the Piccolo Spiegeltent. And, new to the gardens this year is Scotland’s largest Christmas Tree Maze.

George Street
At the west end of George Street, the 120-metre ice rink returns. Further up the street, will be Edinburgh’s first-ever ice bar, a unique, frosty attraction for those looking to chill out in style.

- No – Children and concessions! It probably doesn’t apply to the adorable penguin skate aids either (an additional £5)

Polar Ice Bar

Events at Assembly Hall
Assembly Hall on the Mound joins the festive celebrations this year, including fringe favourites Swamplesque and The Bubble Show.
Family discounts are available for The Bubble Show.
