Beloved Musical “Mary Poppins” Embarks on UK and Ireland Tour

Cameron Mackintosh and Disney Theatrical Group have announced the eagerly awaited UK and Ireland return of the classic multi-award-winning musical Mary Poppins. 20 years after the world premiere in Bristol and subsequent, record-breaking stagings around the world, this new production will embark on a journey across the UK and Ireland, offering audiences a chance to experience the magic once again.

Scheduled to open on November 4, 2024, at the Bristol Hippodrome, the tour features acclaimed Australian stars Stefanie Jones as Mary Poppins and Jack Chambers as Bert. Both actors received critical praise and nightly standing ovations for their performances in the recent Australian production.

“practically perfect and packed with delights…”

The tour already plans to stop at several prominent venues, such as the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin, Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, Theatre Royal Plymouth, and Palace Theatre Manchester. Additional venues will be announced, however.

Based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins promises a magical experience with captivating choreography, breathtaking effects, and unforgettable songs.

Producer and Co-creator Cameron Mackintosh has expressed his excitement, stating, “It is amazingly already 20 years since Mary Poppins first landed onto the stage at the Bristol Hippodrome and started spreading Pamela Travers’ magical stories around the great cities of the world.”

Stefanie Jones, known for her stellar performances in various musical productions, received a Sydney Theatre Award for her portrayal of Mary Poppins. Jack Chambers, a versatile talent with a background in dance and musical theatre, garnered praise for his role as Bert in the Australian tour.

“Stefanie Jones is a magnetic Mary. Her eyes twinkle with mild vanity and well-intentioned mischief. She’s the automatic focus whenever she’s on stage.”

Sydney Morning Herald

The musical features original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, with additional songs and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The book is by Julian Fellowes, co-created by Cameron Mackintosh, and co-directed by Matthew Bourne and Richard Eyre.

Tickets for the tour go on sale from March 18, 2024. For further information and ticket details, visit the official website at marypoppins.co.uk.
