I like to research each and every audience member before the show, and then read out all of their credit card information and pin numbers!

If the audience don’t remember me the morning after then I’ve done my job. I neuralyse every audience member pre-show, post-show and just before they go to sleep. It’s called duty of care and I provide it. YOU DON’T WANT TO REMEMBER SOME OF THE STUFF IN MY SHOW.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

Have you heard of live rats? Well time for livid live rats, and they’ve booked the entire front row and they hate it when audiences don’t laugh at the right points.

What brings a nice show like yours to a place like the Edinburgh Fringe?

Doing a fringe show gives me a chance to not be asked any questions and to not have to look anyone in the eye for an hour. It’s medically prescribed. I think my agent wants me to say something like “I’ve written such a fantastic show that I can’t wait for people to see it.”

We are not a ‘nice show’. Dark, dirty and a little bit twisted, To Watch a Man Eat will get your heart racing and your bumps goosing. We love all things foul: with food, frenzy and f*cking all finding place and the forefront of our story – a story concerned with desire. Battling against ‘corporate fringe’, the play’s candid conversation about living as a ‘cog in the machine’ could not be making its Fringe debut at a better time.

Like an experienced lover, we aim to titillate for as long as you’re with us, and leave you wanting more. Maybe you’ll be hot and bothered, watching scenes which leave little to the filthiest imagination. Or maybe you’ll resonate more with our scorching analysis of the world of work. What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

I spend a lot time trying to build atmosphere and excitement in the room, even before I come on – and once the curtain goes up, my job is blow away their expectations. This show particularly, more than any show I’ve ever put together, has pure moments of magic in it that take people’s breath away.

How do you keep your performances fresh every night?

Loving the audience – it’s their show not mine really. By being totally present in the room and reacting to what’s happening in that space (a space where nothing outside those 4 walls matters), means no two shows are ever the same.

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

It’s very difficult to say you do a magic show and not have preconceived ideas. We’re a mixed bag, us magicians. But if I can have some people in the room a little skeptical, or taking a punt, or being dragged there by a partner – and leave them blown away with the heart filled with warmth, thats the best outcome I can hope for.

That because I’ve been a journalist working in newsrooms for a lot of my life, this show is going to explain and then solve doomscrolling for them. Uh-uh. Your screentime is your own business. I’m here to make jokes, talk about my niece too much and drop subtle hints about why the climate crisis is bad.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

In my show, I’ve got character comedy, I’ve got a small child swearing, I’ve got real-life headlines about the continuing orca assaults on billionaires’ yachts. Killer whales are socialist as well as matriarchial? Solidarity. Be still all our fast-beating hearts.
