  • A Fringe Quickie (#65) with ‘Sam See: And I Can’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore’

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

I don’t got to sleep with a bowtie on. I never keep it on during sex. I will pick the shirt before the bowtie, because I will just keep picking the same few bowties time and again, and I need to give the other ones some love. Except my Union Jack one. You know what you did.

How will the audience remember you the morning after?

With the merch I bribe them with to tip me more at the Bucket Speech. I haven’t slept with an audience member before, and I haven’t a clue why. Mostly because only attached gay couples come to shows. Single gays are out partying. WHERE ARE THE SINGLE GAYS, COME TO MY SHOW.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

There’s a lot of failure in my show, admitting how bad life has been, and we have had first hand reports of people crying, so if you want a comedy show that makes you laugh and feel, come on board. If not, well, there’s Shaggers for you. Not slagging that off, I’m doing it for half of this festival! The show, not the shagging.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#64) with ‘Ted Hill: 110% Normal’

If you/your show were a school subject what would you/it be and why?

It would be science, but not the kind of science you learn form textbooks. I’m talking about the kind of science where some guy turns up to your school and blows things up, just to see if he can. Throughout all of 2023, in the early stages of creating my show, I followed the principle of ‘I wonder what would happen if’, and as a result some parts of this show are deeply peculiar (but in a normal, cool way).

How do you keep your performances fresh every night?

I have several parts of my show that are different every night depending on the audience, including an AI I created to perform crowd-work. In truth, I’d love the rest of my show to be the same every night, but i simply don’t have the focus to say the same thing over and over without being distracted by something in the room.

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

A lot of people think that my comedy is weird, and THIS IS FALSE!! I’m actually very normal and my show proves what a normal comedian I am, with an exhaustive and intense list of all my normal traits! There is nothing weird about videos, graphs, robotics, bad AI, lip syncing and elaborate diagrams being part of a live comedy show!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#63) with ‘Grubby Little Mitts: Eyes Closed, Mouths Open’

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

A lot of people (audience, press, distant relations) wonder if we are a couple in real life, so it’s great to be able to clear that up in this interview.

How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Any time you eat a piece of carrot cake, you’ll think of us.

What coffee would you/your show be, and why?

There’s only one type of coffee for Grubby Little Mitts. It’s sexy – it’s piercing – it’s noisy. It’s coffee for your mouth – and don’t forget your loyalty card (mwah)

  • A Fringe Quickie (#62) with ‘Break Up With Your Dad’

How will the audience remember you the morning after?

They’ll smile as they remember the way my show ends, they’ll feel empowered to embrace my mentality, and they’ll choke on their coffee as they reminisce on my outrageous jokes.

If you/your show were a school subject what would you/it be and why?

My show would be Chemistry for sure. It’s all about mixing potent potables, conducting experiments, noting the failures. There’s going to be a few explosions but I provide protective gear so it won’t get on you.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

I tell the truth and my truth, is effin crazy. My life has been a wild movie and because I’m brave, I’ve always stood up and asked questions. My show invites audiences to match my stride. Once you get the confidence to break up with your cop dad, you can break up with anyone.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#61) with ‘The Break-Up Diet’

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

I tell the truth and you cant handle that… obviously.

How do you keep your performances fresh every night?

I change the show every night because I can’t remember my lines.

If you/your show were a school subject what would you/it be and why?

Maths. what the… I thought it was Math. The world has gone bonkers. My subject would be history because that’s what we are living. It’s important to at least try and live like it’s important.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#60) with ‘Chris Grace: Sardines (a comedy about death)’

How do you keep your performances fresh every night?

I tweak the show a bit each night in two ways: firstly, I always adapt to the crowd’s vibe. Secondly, I invariably forget at least one chunk of my lines, which adds a bit of fun for everyone… the audience, me, the tech team, and especially my director!

What coffee would you/your show be, and why?

Black coffee with boba… dark, intense, but with a delightful Asian surprise at the bottom.

If you/your show were a school subject what would you/it be and why?

PE, because my show is about grief and death, and I always thought about grief and death whenever I got a dodgeball to the head.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#59) with ‘Always Aphrodite’

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

i’ll let you in on a little show secret: it is always best to play the fool before the fall. That you gotta show your comedy hand before you whap! them with a fist full of feelings. Aphrodite’s talent lies in her multi-faceted approach to Storytelling. Just like love itself, the Goddess can be full of joy before ripping your heart out. And in all honesty, it’s about raising the stakes and inviting vulnerability when you least expect it.

How do you keep your performances fresh every night?

It’s about connecting with each other and our own emotions, and knowing exactly why we’re doing this: to shed light on our fairytales. The good news is that we picked the perfect person to tell this story, and the Goddess Aphrodite can’t be tamed. Though we tried our best to encourage her to follow the script, nobody puts Aphrodite in the corner. Every night will be a little bit different. A little bit more unhinged. And a little bit more real.

How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Fresh and aglow like you just had the hottest hook up of your life. But maybe a bit uncertain in your feelings. As the excitement of the night before wears off, you may wonder: Sure – one night stands are all fun and games, but don’t you want a deeper connection? That’s the intention.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#58) with ‘Òran’

If you/your show were a school subject what would you/it be and why?

Music as a subject but not in the classical sense of learning notes but being experimental with unusual sounds and creating as you go along, not knowing where it will take you. Òran feels like that in the sense of the story and how it develops with the live score intensifying in every moment. It’s a real buzz and the tunes will stay with you long after seeing the show.

What brings a nice show like yours to a place like the Edinburgh Fringe?

It feels like the perfect environment to debut our visceral new show, allowing us to be playful & experimental. The fast paced environment of the Fringe lends to the chaotic nature of our one man show. We explore modern day themes whilst taking an adaptation of a Greek classic & subverting it with a live electronic score. These themes will resonate with audiences & explores a spectrum of emotions as you travel with Òran through the many layers.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

There’s a switch between the character of Òran and Hades throughout the show played by our single performer whilst operating a live pulsating electronic/experimental live score that will have audience’s at the edge of their seat. You will feel like you’ve been transported into the Underworld and are facing Hades himself.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#57) with ‘Triptych’

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

You’ll inadvertently fall in love the dancers, performing both moves and storytelling that grabs the heart, squeezes it, and kisses you gently on the forehead in the finale, ensuring you’ll remember us in the morning. We don’t settle for just entertaining: you’ll leave breathless and craving more.

What brings a nice show like yours to a place like the Edinburgh Fringe?

Well, where else can you mingle with an international audience, network with industry bigwigs, and get a reality check on your marketability—all the while pretending it’s not mainly about exposure, prestige and being (not) paid in the most beautiful city in the Northern Hemisphere during Summer?

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

The prevailing belief amongst large swathes of the public that contemporary dance is opaque, unapproachable, up-its-own-ass and boring and that choreographers are all angsty, sex-mad and/or sad dies with this show; I’m a former sheep shearer, for goodness sake, and I’m not going to make boring work. Good art is an argument about the things in life worth focusing on, and we like to think that we’re making good art.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#56) with ‘MILF and the Mistress’

What misconceptions do you think people have about you/your show – would you like to clear them up?

It’s easy to look at sensibly-dressed Ali (our protagonist) and think that she’s not your “speed”…but what this show does is invite you to imagine yourself going on her journey, and be astonished at what it awakens in you! Don’t be surprised if you rush out post-show to sign up for shibari and bondage play workshops!

What brings a nice show like yours to a place like the Edinburgh Fringe?

The roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd…sheer lunacy … AND the desire to tell the story of a sexual adventure that lifts you up into the person you want to be. Expect latex, ropes, quixotic lighting and Birkenstocks. Oh, and laughs.

What do you/your show do to make an audience’s heart beat faster?

See the above! and add that we take you into a BDSM dungeon and cajole you into feeling what that might be like for the novice – terror, titillation, nipple-twists and all
