#SNAPCHATZ Episode 53: The three D’s of #EdFringe 2023-deceit, disillusionment and diversity

#SNAPCHATZ - #EdFringe 2023 - TheQR.co.uk - episode 53

Welcome to this #SNAPCHATZ episode, featuring the three D’s of #EdFringe 2023: get ready for Sachin Kumarendran’s tales of Deceit, Dubai comedy Royalty – Ali Al Sayed and Mina Liccione, and Stroud & Notes’ musical exploration of Diversity. Dive in and discover your new favourite show!

#SNAPCHATZ is simple. I challenge all 2023 Fringe performers & creators to answer 3 questions and to sell you, dear reader, their show. Their answers are tossed into a digital hat, and published in quick-read trios. It’s a Fringe goer’s fastest and safest (no guerilla flyering!) way to find someone, or something, new.

If you like what you read, you’re intrigued, you bark a laugh or shed a tear, or you suspect some risk of lasting trauma, then click those links and buy a ticket, or 10!

Who are you/what is your show?

We’re Ali Ali Sayed and Mina Liccione and our show is called DUBAI FLING. We’re two very diverse comedians who pioneered a comedy scene in Dubai and then got married so we can poke fun at each other in public.

What sets your show apart from the rest?

Ali is a renown Arab-Muslim comic from Dubai and Mina is an Italian-American Broadway veteran from New York. Together we deliver powerhouse punchlines and share stories about life as comedians in the Middle East through a unique lens. From ‘bada-bing’ to desert bling, focaccia to Ferrari and everything in between.

Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?

A group of comedy lovers with an open-mind and a good sense of humour alongside the entire cast of Modern Family, Shaq, Robin Williams, Robert DiNero and Mina’s Dad, Tony. He can’t travel anymore so having him come to Edinburgh would be very special. What a party that would be! And Tony would cook Italian food for everyone!

Who are you/what is your show?

We’re Stroud & Notes! Queer led theatre collective who make original musicals! Public – The Musical: Our first pop/rock show about 4 strangers stuck in a gender neutral public toilet!

What sets your show apart from the rest?

With a diverse cast of characters, big conversations and even bigger songs, this show breaks all the rules! It’ll make you laugh, think and hum the songs days after. It’s an awkward but exciting hour that’ll have you feeling all the feels!

Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?

Dream audience really is (I can’t believe i’m being that person…) everyone! This is a show about the importance of connection and compassion between very different people. All of us can learn something from someone else’s experience. We all become better people by listening to people outside of our own circles and admitting that we might not always know everything.
