• A Fringe Quickie (#369) with ‘Lost Property’

Questions answered by Amelia Dunn and Tuia Suter.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Untouched’ by The Veronicas – because we’re Edinburgh Fringe virgins and we’re excited to pop another fringe cherry!

Q2: What’s the temperature of your show?

Blistering. Think boiling water – you start off cool and comfortable but by the end you’re scorching.

Q3: If your show had a safe word, what would it be? And would it use it?

CERTIFIED CLAM COMMANDER! But no need, the audience knows where the exit is at all times.

Q4: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

The ludicrous number of synonyms I know for the word ‘vagina’.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#368) with ‘Chickens’

    Questions answered by Monika Klisch.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

“Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens” — not because we love it, but because it’s the only song left! The heat lamps are on, there’s hay in the bedroom, and someone keeps saying, “I need you babe.”

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A double Abhainn Dearg. Neat. From the wild Isle of Lewis, straight to your chest — to warm it up, question your choices, and possibly convince you to install a chicken coop on the balcony.

Q3: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Like a fever dream: a beach towel, a rooster crow, declarations of love, and a scientific explanation that “we’ll only need six chickens… in the worst case scenario.”

Q4: What’s the temperature of your show?

65°C. That’s when egg whites, and emotional boundaries, start to solidify. Too hot? Too late.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#367) with ‘3 White Guys Named John’

    Questions answered by Andrea Coleman.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Bigger Than My Body’ by John Mayer, because it makes me feel like I can literally fly and is also a low key anthem for short Kings and Queens.

Q2: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

My show would leave the keys to Cameron’s Dad’s cherry red 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California, so you could play hooky and take a day off like Ferris Bueller.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

Wanna have a foursome with ‘3 White Guys Named John’?

Q4: If your show had a safe word, what would it be? And would it use it?

The safe word would be JOHN and it’d use it if their partner wasn’t going hard enough.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#366) with ‘Loser Lion Party Bus’

    Questions answered by Kym Priess.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Martin Denny’s “The Enchanted Sea” (1959). My ‘morning music.’ I find it calmly energizing, inspirational and grounding – great way to wake up or even come home to. My show is HIGH-OCTANE AF so grounding and energy preservation is key for Fringe survival. Tiki tropical zen.

Q2: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

bAby. put em up. u r superstar they always want u dreams ar real take em as they cum u r perfoict they yell at me in street all i can SaY is Put EM UP u r winnr baBy my dead dad always says dont be hard on yurself im hungry nachos. comeover. bus needs gas left NYC too soon lurveu

Q3: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

When LL gets topless and turns around with tits like Dolly his inflatable lover — tits read “Put ’em Up!” — does a lil burlesque number to IDLES song “Car Crash.” Dolly also wears EXTREMELY holey underwear later. Oh, Grangy Priess would hate it! Or maybe wanna do it herself!

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

For making them cum together. Next time they cum out in their lives (maybe that morn) , whose face will they think of? None other than Loser Lion’s. 🙂 LL’s strength: getting peepz to do stuff w/ him that they wouldn’t usually do. He’s scarily/charmingly convincing. Consent who?

  • A Fringe Quickie (#365) with ‘Driving in Circles’

    Questions answered by EPs Theater.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter This song will sink you into a colorless death-gripped depression and then launch you back out like a bottle rocket, with a burning will to live in this technicolor world you nearly gave up on. And sometimes you need that.

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Driving in Circles has been called ‘the best live album you’ve never heard’. It’s been called been called ‘astonishingly cool’. We’re willing to bet you’ll have the songs stuck in your head for days to come (and don’t worry, we’ve got an album!)

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

Driving is full of moments that make you laugh at the dark stuff – a party at a murder house, sleep paralysis demons, even colon cancer. We’ll have you dancing to a song about wanting to die, rocking out to a song about seizures, and falling in love over a broken air-conditioner.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

Make it a Foghorn – gin and ginger ale, with a twist of lime. A little bit medicinal to sooth an upset tummy, but a great summertime drink to order at a roadside bar.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#364) with ‘Riabellion’

    Questions answered by Ria Lina.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

By record I hope you mean album – gotta be Graceland by Paul Simon. So many classics, discovered it during my A-levels and it’s probably the only album I know every word to! I mean whose heart doesn’t lift to ‘You Can Call me Al’? I’m looking at you Betty.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

That I still live with my ex-husband. It’s not something I tell all dates, in fact, I’ll be honest, I’m so rubbish at dating, I’ve left some without telling them my full name (use an initial on dating apps), but I think that’s more on them then on me. 😂

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Riabellion’s pick up line would be: Hey do you like feeling on edge at all times and hearing truths that shouldn’t be whispered let alone said out loud that you have to laugh at just to dispel the tension? Well some of that is true… sometimes… or is it? 😈

Q4: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Imagine a whole parade of Karens just causing Karen anarchy. Karenarchy. That would be my show’s crime. I mean one Karen is entertaining, add hormones and a whole bunch more of them and it’s chaos. But also, hilarious.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#363) with ‘Facility 111: A Government Experiment’

    Questions answered by Inge-Vera Lipsius.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Marlena Shaw’s ‘California Soul’—as a hype track, because I love the Fringe—although it couldn’t be more different from the tone of the show that I have written and am performing at the festival…which is a surreal new audio play that takes place in complete darkness…

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

When I performed the show in previews, the word ‘hypnotherapy’ was used… Hopefully, they will still be a bit hypnotised, and be comparing their experience of it with each other—as everyone will end up having a different experience, since the show depends on your imagination.

Q3: What’s the temperature of your show?

I would say, cool to hot, as it covers the spectrum… It’s an audio journey, so audiences should come prepared to go on journey that might take them to familiar or unfamiliar places… Different weathers feature in the show, as do very different locations…

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A negroni—a stiff drink (one of my favourites, when done well). In my show, ‘Facility 111,’ an off-stage voice asks audiences to visualise images / place themselves in situations that unfold in two interconnected cities—one made of glass, another of sand—on the eve of an event.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#362) with ‘Ascension’

    Questions answered by Dan Hazelwood.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Without a doubt it has to be Madonna’s Like a Prayer. It is inherently queer, has religious overtones, and is about love. Those three things are also true about Ascension. Also, you can really get lost in dancing to it (not true for the entirety of Ascension).

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

In Ascension, a man desperately searches for water. While I’d love to say it would order a huge glass of water (ice and a slice yes please) it HAS to be a margarita, shaken and served straight up. It’s strong yet leaves you wanting more.  You can’t get much gayer than a marg.

Q3: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

My grandma was a queer ally in the 1950s, and a writer too (unpublished despite her best efforts). She’s dead now and I didn’t get to come out to her but I’m pretty sure she knew (who didn’t?) She would LOVE me proudly being my little queer self in my very own little queer play.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#361) with ‘Call Me Crazy’

    Questions answered by Olivia Ormond.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

I would take Lorde’s Liability. It’s akin to Call Me Crazy in that it’s an ‘in between’. Like walking into your old childhood bedroom; both a comforting hug and a place you don’t belong anymore.

Q2: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

When I refer to a guy’s flaccid dick as ‘soft serve’. I had people tell me they will never look at ice cream the same. I like to throw the comedy right next to or on top of the hard truth. And for the soft serve line unfortunately he was not hard and I was on top of him.

Q3: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

This show will grab you by the arm and take you along for the crazy ride. We don’t leave anyone behind because you’re only as crazy as the company you keep…

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A tequila shot straight no chaser; hard to swallow but numbs the pain.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Any outkast but the speaker boxxx/love below album slaps. Anything to get away from this KanYe Musk Ai dystopia of sound I s33m to be reading📚. Anyway, too real . Just listen to your own comfort playlist your ex has probably made. We are sure there’s some good memories there.

Scat. Yes to warn of the audiences to put there number 2 umbrella shields 🛡 up since there may be splash damage of a scared acrobat.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Wanna read the dawn of humanity and talk about daddy and mummy issues centered around a big black mamba. U know before the end of days come. I’d like our kingdoms to cum like two dynasties in bloody matrimony.

Q4: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

  • A Fringe Quickie (#359) with ‘Comedy Hypnosis Show & The Mind Reader Live’

    Questions answered by Daniel Sinclair.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Don’t stop me now by Queen. The Fringe may get daunting at times: I’ll probably lose my voice along the way, get RSI from flyering – and not have time to shower – but as soon as the curtains open, all the pre-show nerves and what-ifs go out the window and I feel ELECTRIC!

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Scaling the fences of the ITV studios and bribing Simon Cowell and his crew into selecting Bill from Scunthorpe (or whoever my star volunteer is on the night) to be the winner of BGT 2025. Go Bill!

Q3: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

‘So… my memory of last night is a little hazy but I believe I may have accidentally got hitched to Brian May from Queen, become the new James Bond and then got abducted by aliens.’

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

03.01: Hey boss, just wanted to say I QUITTTTTTTTT. Met TAYLOR FRICKIN SWIFT at a hypnosis show last night and she hired ME to be her personal assistant. So suck it. 04.25: Hi Roger, please ignore the above. I’ve been having issues with my phone lately. See you on Monday!

    Questions answered by Grace Helbig.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Girl Talk All Day. It’s 372 samples of pure, unadulterated hype. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the fever dream of a festival. All Day everyday.

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

I assume they’ll wake up thinking, “wow that awkward, tall woman told us a whole hell of a lot about her bowels. I hope she’s doing okay.”

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

Hiiiiiiiiii do u ever think about how finding your authentic self in an age of performative digital personhood is actually an act of rebellion???? I WANT FRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q4: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

The whole show. It’s about breast cancer. But it’s funny. I’m taking the piss (and sh*t) out of the cancer experience and giving the audience permission to laugh at something they’re not sure if they should. It’s medically mischievous!

    Questions answered by Michael Quinn.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Theme from ‘A Summer Place’, because it takes me to a warm and inviting, haunting beach. It brings me to a place with the potential for a sunburn and a hot dog. I can relax when I hear it, which lets me bring my best self to my audience.

Q2: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

Being knocked out the size of my (all-natural, smoked) weiner, only with mustard onions and sauerkraut… no ketchup!

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

I have the largest (all-natural smoked) weiner in the world.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A beer and a hot dog – the original Feltman’s of course, only with mustard onions and sauerkraut… no ketchup! That’s only for rotted meat.

    Questions answered by Lucy Watson.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Everything Now by Arcade Fire. For when the digital promise gets too loud, too bright, and too empty. Why? Because it’s energetic, relentless, and quietly devastating — just like life inside a game you didn’t sign up for.

Q2: What’s the temperature of your show?

oof. I want to say we’re running hot… maybe like an overheating laptop. Just on the edge of meltdown. Blinking. Unstable. About to explode.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

3:12AM : wait…. what if the game is real and real life is the game?? like… what if the leaderboard is reality and i just didn’t click “accept cookies” fast enough? I saw a man buy a carrot with crypto and no one stopped him…For real. Wait…are we the tokens?

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

An espresso martini with a Red Bull chaser. Stylish. Theatrical. Good for a night out. Then the chaser adds some chaotic energy and game-world stamina. This is a drink that questions the rules: It arrives. Then disappears. And leaves you wondering where you are…

  • A Fringe Quickie (#354) with ‘2 Guys, 3 Drams: The Ultimate Live Blues and Whisky Experience’

Questions answered by The Rhythm and Booze Project.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

When I was 3 years old I was obsessed with my grandmother’s record of Juan Luis Guerra’s 1990 album Bachata Rosa. It was my teddy bear and my security blanket. The obsession has never left me and I’m very lucky my toddler self had such good taste and music.

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Hopefully without a hangover and able to remember the tips and tricks we teach them in our show – we always promise that you’ll sound smart whenever you’re drinking whisky for the rest of your life. And they’ll remember the washboard we use. That thing is loud.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

We serve three amazing whiskies at our show. So obviously our show would order a gorgeous full-bodied Scotch whisky, but the guilty pleasure is a Pina Colada where you replace the rum with Ardbeg. Tropical vibes? Check. Enough peat to turn you into a firebreathing dragon? Check.

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Grandma would love the show because she gets to go get tiddly on whisky while supporting the arts, and then sigh longingly at co-host/washboarder/drummer Paul because the man literally dresses as if the 50s never ended.

Questions answered by Malcolm Sutherland .

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

I’d take “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. It’s the ultimate feel-good anthem, boosting my spirit and motivation, reminding me that no challenge is insurmountable with good vibes and support. Perfect for survival at the Fringe!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

When they go onto the street to see flyering for other shows … it will remind them of the struggle to connect.

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

When Maeve (the waitress) character is left alone after closing time and we see how vulnerable she is even though her character is light hearted and chatty

Q4: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

If you pick me, we’ll skip starters and main course … and head straight for dessert.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#352) with ‘What ever happened to Harmony Banks?’

    Questions answered by Harmony Banks.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

It has to be “Piece of Me” by Britney – obviously. She’s living the dream, crying in her dressing room. ‘She’s too big, now she’s too thin’. Honestly, it’s a mantra. I play it before every show.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Probably charged with identity theft (mostly my own). Emotional fraud, resisting reality, repeated offences of oversharing in public spaces and illegally distributing unsolicited life advice.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

It would order a lavender-infused tequila with a CBD rim, says it’s for “nervous system support,” but really it just wants attention. Then it’d sage the jukebox and cry in the bathroom about cosmic timing.

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

just fell off my platform heels but spiritually i’m soaring 💖 do u think the audience felt that or was it just me?? also… i miss 2007. smoothies in the morning? xx

  • A Fringe Quickie (#350) with ‘No Sugar No Milk (Prototyping)’

    Questions answered by TS Crew.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

The ultimate comfort. If you cannot find comfort in Fringe, you could never enjoy it, not to mention survive or success.

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

A coffee, with no sugar no milk please.

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

I am sure the people cannot hold their laugh at the moment that they don’t expect to laugh

Q4: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

I am sure they want to be the one who has been chosen during the show. So they do want to come back and be the chosen one

  • A Fringe Quickie (#349) with ‘Cheese and Guava or Romeo and Juliet’

    Questions answered by Fagner Rodrigues.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

We would bring, collectively, Roberto Carlos’ “As Canções Que Você Fez pra Mim” (The songs you wrote to me). The tracks on this album are fundamental to the construction of our show. Hidden in my luggage, I’d bring “Caju” (Cashew), by Liniker, my favourite of the moment.

Q2: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

It would have to be an audio, singing a song on the show that says “I wanna be your song, I wanna be your key. To rub myself against your lips and be your lipstick. The soap that smoothes your skin under the shower. The towel that slides through your whole body”.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Attempt to murder! We would certainly be accused of trying to murder a Shakespeare classic.

Q4: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

That Brazilians are very good kissers! Anyone in the audience can ask for a tryout!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#348) with ‘RUSSIAN ROULETTE PLAY’

    Questions answered by Will Osbon.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

As an Alpha Male, AURA and STANK is what I’ll need to get through the Fringe. So, of course, I’ll be taking “Surfin Bird” by The Trashmen.

Q2: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

Primarily, A GUN TO THE HEAD. Secondarily, sweet nothings and compliments combined with the begging of a small dog. We don’t care. We’ll get on our knees. Kiss your shoes. Which won’t be a bother because we know you own a fancy pair. Don’t you, pal?

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

“QUICK WAKE UP THERE’S A PIG WITH A NUMBER PAINTED ON IT THAT I NEED TO CATCH BEFORE THE SUN RISES OR I LOSE AND THIS BOMB IMPLANTED IN MY NECK WILL GO OFF HELP HELP HELP”

Q4: If your show had a safe word, what would it be? And would it use it?

“YAHTZEE!”. And no because both characters forgot it.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#347) with ‘Primed’

    Questions answered by Jacob Nussey.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Coffee and TV by Blur. It’s quite apt for the fringe, especially on the 8th, 9th and 12th of August.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

    Shoplifting

Q3: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

My show wouldn’t have a toothbrush to leave.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

It would steal a bottle of vodka from behind the bar and drink in the park.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#346) with ‘Mary O’Connell: Dilly Dally’

    Questions answered by Mary O’Connell.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

No Waves by Fidlar because it’s happy, angry, chaotic and sad all at the same time, which is how my fringe usually goes

Q2: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

    We need batteries

Q3: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

I’ll pop up from under their bed and say ‘boo’ so initially they’ll think of me as an intruder and be quite scared. But then I’ll make them scrambled eggs so they’ll remember me as a polite intruder.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

My show would order a negroni in order to look cool and grown up but would then instantly regret the bitter taste of it and cave in and order an aperol spritz.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#345) with ‘Marimba Mirage — Sounds in Motion’

    Questions answered by Manuel Leuenberger.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Nighttime Disguise by the Norwegian band Leprous. It has all the energy, the tension, and the suspension, plus emotions I need for my show. The lyrics at some point go „My body and my mind are synchronized“. That’s exactly what I need for a successful fringe.

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

As an energised jumping ball, he strikes the marimba bars with four mallets at once, bringing a ton of enthusiasm and a big smile to the stage. 100% percussive craziness with the ability to touch your musical heart.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

The Aunt Roberta—widely credited as the strongest cocktail ever served in a bar. Why? Because my show packs so much whirring marimba mallet movement you’ll get dizzy just from watching—just as with absinthe, gin, vodka, brandy, and blackberry liqueur. Your vision will be blurry.

Q4: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

I’m much more of an extrovert on stage than off. When I play my marimba, I can be fast and fearless, but also soft and intimate. With my mallets, I touch the marimba’s bars—with my music, I touch hearts. You might be surprised how much passion hides behind a quiet smile.
