• A Fringe Quickie (#394) with ‘An Adequate Abridgement of Boarding School Life as a Homo ‘

Questions answered by Choir Boys Productions.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Our show wouldn’t be what it was today without our queen, musical guide, and shining light in the dark – Britney Spears. “Gimme, gimme more.” YES BRITNEY WE WILL! She’s punk, she’s pop, she’s radical and rumbustious. (Alternative option: Jojo Siwa. For same reasons stated above.)

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

To quote another queer icon, it would have to be “a negroni, sbagliato, with prosecco”. It’s dark, a tad bitter, but its fruity side is fighting with all its might to break free.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it be?

“Mummy HELP ME. The othr boys r picking on me bcause my shooting socks are fudGINng pink.”

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Probably our sex scene that is choreographed to a Britney song. There’s enough moaning and gyrating to make her turn in her grave – and let’s not even get on to the fact that it’s with another man! Oops!

    Questions answered by Jon Hipkiss.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

    Hanson – MMMBop

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

    Tap water. It’s free.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it be?

Tell your mum I said hi

Q4: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

  • A Fringe Quickie (#392) with ‘Use Your Words!’

Questions answered by Karen Eleanor Wight.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

To get in the right headspace for my light comedy about parenthood, it would have to be Audioslave. There’s nothing like hard rock music and some good ole headbanging, air guitar, and moshing (solo? Who’s up for joining me?) to loosen the necessary muscles for physical comedy.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

That I can travel across a stage on my back using only my butt, legs, and abs and then climb into a chair feet first. Ok, I don’t quite make it all the way into the chair but I USED to, y’all! I blame Trump. Either way, potential dates out there, I hope you’re intrigued…

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Can I use you as perfume?

Q4: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Stashing unhealthy amounts of Skittles, insomnia-murdering coffee, and Scottish whiskey in a child’s nursery and not sharing any of it with the onstage trumpet player (or audience for that matter. Come anyway!)

  • A Fringe Quickie (#391) with ‘OnlyGrans’

    Questions answered by Nathalie Fenwick.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Patty Smith’s Horses album! It was the first vinyl I ever owned and I admire Patty Smith as an artist because she really broke the mould for what could be possible with music. I aim in my practice to also think outside the box in this way and let’s face it, how can you not get pumped up when blasting “Gloriaaaaaa”!!!

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A hot toddy but with a splash of ginger spice! It’s a nice old lady drink but with a little something unexpected 😉

Q3: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

My Grandma would love the part where the audience gets given some Werther’s Originals (but she probably wouldn’t like the striptease!!)

  • A Fringe Quickie (#390) with ‘Lapdog’

    Questions answered by Rachel Frost.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

GLORIA – Laura Branigan. It’s my feel-good, let-loose, dance around the kitchen song. That’s the energy I want to bring to Fringe. I did all the prep work, now I want to perform & have fun!

Q2: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

Mine would leave a trail of glitter – a sneaky reminder of a damn good time and poor decisions that’ll haunt you for weeks to come.

Q3: If your show had a safe word, what would it be? And would it use it?

    What’s a safe word? – My Show

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A dirty martini: bold and spirit forward with a salty finish. Don’t be fooled by the clear liquid in a tall crystal glass – there’s more to taste than meets the eye.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#389) with ‘David’s One-Man Band (F*ck You, Steven)’

    Questions answered by Laurie Stevens.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

David would take The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. Is there anything more emo than a concept album written in a haunted mansion, amidst emotional turmoil, about a fictional dying man known only as ‘The Patient’?!

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A WKD – sweet, juvenile, but leaves you feeling pretty good. Just don’t underestimate its strength.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Jaywalking – it seems silly, but there’s wisdom behind it.

Q4: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

It would put on that t-shirt you loved but forgot you had. It would sing in the shower, which would make you cringe at first, but you’d find yourself humming along. And it would definitely leave its wristbands, eyeliner and poetry notebook as an excuse to see you again.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#388) with ‘Basically Nocturnal’

    Questions answered by Thomas Currie.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Chris De Burgh’s ‘Spanish Train and Other Stories’. I do a version of ‘Spanish Train’ in the show. His storytelling through song is second to none. All of his songs could be poetry on their own, or simply instrumental music and still would evoke the same story and that’s an art.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Charged with disturbing the peace at midnight, spreading conspiracy theories, then resisting arrest by singing a show tune.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Well since the show is all about the lack of sleep, it would be along the lines of… “I don’t dream much anymore. But if I did, it would look a lot like this moment…”!

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

It would have to be… “I just fed your dating history into ChatGPT and turned it into a song. It’s a banger. You’re welcome.”

  • A Fringe Quickie (#387) with ‘Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence’

    Questions answered by Courtney McManus.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Hands down the Touring Cast Album of Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence (dropping July 31st). Literal life support in the form of hot, sporty, girl power pop-synth tracks with a spooky Shakespearean twist.

Q2: What’s the temperature of your show?

Scorching. Flames-on-the-court, sweat-dripping-under-your-netball-bib hot. Fire is everywhere in this show. It’s a sports musical, so we are running, jumping, dancing, and you’ll feel every second of it. Get ready to sweat, bring water, wear SPF, and we’ll see you on the court.

Q3: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

Killer vocals and choreography. We’re talking wall-of-sound harmonies that knock you off balance, soft moments that lull you in, and sudden blasts of vocal power that leave people gasping. By the end, audiences don’t know if they want to cheer, cry, or lie down in a cold room.

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

100% from one of the girls on the team: “ok but WHO is captaining the Dunsinane Hell-Hounds now? bc I swear if it’s Mac again I’m staging a coup also The Dagger Divas just dropped a new track and I’m crying in my bib it’s SO GOOD”

    Questions answered by Alex Berr.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

“I Know I’m Funny haha” by Faye Webster– self-explanatory, I think

Q2: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

My Yiayia would probably be confused that I accuse her of being obsessed with the status of Lance Armstrong’s testicles (if a celebrity wasn’t in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, they’re nothing)

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Excessive mouse killing (I feel bad about it! I provide a nuanced take! Unhand me!)

    Questions answered by Lin Cao.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Wish You Were Here’ by Pink Floyd. ‘We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year…’ That line holds the heart of Cardstock: two people circling each other in a fragile, fleeting connection.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

Most men can’t make women come

Q3: What’s the temperature of your show?

Minus 100, 100, and a perfect 37°C — icy reality, burning ideals, and the quiet warmth of two girls saving each other.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

Spicy mango margarita – sweet and tangy at first sip, but with a slow-burning heat that catches you off guard. It’s bright, bold, and leaves a taste that lingers long after the glass is empty – like an encounter you can’t quite forget.

Questions answered by Awful Shoes Collective.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

One More Kiss, Dear by Vangelis, a beautiful, beautiful song like a love letter from another lifetime. Our show is a 21st-century retelling of a Chinese myth, where the character lives for a thousand years and has countless lovers – isn’t this the perfect track!?

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A moment of spring night is worth a thousand ounces of gold’ (春宵一刻值千金): Vodka, green tea, osmanthus. Velvety at first with a fierce finish. Stirring up your memories like throwing stones into a river.

Q3: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

We believe love can be thunder, fire, water, and earth – and we made a multisensory show featuring a 1000-year-old snake to prove that. So yes, we will perform a cross-analysis of our relationship, write a show that makes you feel bad, and ask you to wear headphones at dinner.

Q4: What’s the temperature of your show?

30°C / 86°F. We are a one-woman show and this woman is actually a snake and snakes generally prefer to maintain a body temperature around 30°C / 86°F (yep we just googled that).

I Love It – Icona Pop ft Charlie XCX

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Like that friend who REALLY overshared – uncomfortable but oddly grateful someone finally said what everyone was thinking.

Q3: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

Definitely just memories. Very intense, slightly traumatic memories that you’ll think about for weeks.

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

MIKA’s The Origin of Love. It’s poptastic!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

A haze of love, lust, and accidental cuckoldry… did I actually have a threesome or was that something that happened on stage?

    SEX ROBOT ACTIVATE!

Q4: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

    Questions answered by Maria MacDonell.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

We didn’t start the fire by Billy Joel. We played it in the car on our recent tour of LIFE, replacing the lyrics with a list of all the people we were meeting. The list will grow during Fringe. After the show everyone wants to talk. LIFE creates amazing, memorable encounters.

Q2: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Ooooh… ‘coming’ , ‘spunk’, ‘pubic bush’. I have seen many people’s grandmas’ love those moments.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Come up to my studio. I have a pencil.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#380) with ‘Cody and Beau: A Wild West Story’

Questions answered by Will Grice and Dylan Kaeuper .

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan. Not just for the music, but because it feels like the perfect soundtrack to our play—and to the whole Fringe experience itself. I can just imagine myself walking to chaos of the streets listening to the album, buzzing to get on stage.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

    OUTLAWIN

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

“why did i saddle the hobby horse and whisper ‘you’re the only one who understands me’ in front of the audience. AGAIN. i just want someone to bite my spurs and tell me i’ve the biggest gun in all the west.”

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A smoked mezcal Old Fashioned served in a chipped glass, with a strip of beef jerky instead of an orange twist. No ice. Garnished with a single matchbook from a saloon bar that burned down in 1997.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#379) with ‘Song Society’

    Questions answered by Florencia Iriondo.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Eric Clapton or Lauryn Hill’s MTV Unplugged! Both shaped my songwriting as a teen in Argentina. That era is nostalgic and magical, and it’s infused into all my solo musicals. Their raw, stripped-back sound feels like home.

Q2: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

My show centers around a strange little device built to file away people’s unprompted feelings. I named it Olga, after my character’s grandma. Something tells me my real-life Abuela would’ve absolutely loved it, and definitely had some notes.

Q3: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

They’ll wake up humming a melody they can’t quite place, like they dreamed something absurd, fun, and uplifting. A mixtape of memory, music, and magical realism, filed somewhere between their heart and subconscious.

Q4: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Are you a memory? Because I can’t stop replaying you… and I might just write a song about it.

    Questions answered by Terry Victor.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. The story goes that George Clinton (who must be an actual wizard) slipped acid to the guitarist Eddie Hazell acid then told him his mum had died (she hadn’t) – the guitar solo rips my heart out. The opening voice is just plain weird.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Grievous Bodily Harm with a loaded gag.

Q3: What’s the temperature of your show?

Like a frog’s bath – it heats up as we go along but you might not notice until it bubbles over.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A Prospero’s Kibosh with a salted rim. Cheers!

    Questions answered by Wenjun Zhu.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Astor Piazzolla’s ‘Concierto Para Quinteto’. It’s delirious, free-flowing, darkly amusing and wildly alive — like the Fringe itself. It keeps me grounded and aroused, dancing between chaos and control with every breath.

Q2: What’s the temperature of your show?

Scalding. We melt wax, not hearts — though maybe both. Bring your curiosity and a safe word.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Would you like me to tie you up? I’ll twist your heart, stretch your limits, and leave you breathless between pain and pleasure. Ready to get bound in a dance you won’t forget?

Q4: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

That I’m a Chinese girl from a conservative culture — but my show dives headfirst into power, desire, and raw vulnerability. It might just say more about me than I ever would on a date.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#376) with ‘Edward (in Memoriam)’

    Questions answered by Bristol DramSoc.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Rhythm is a Dancer by SNAP! The 2000s nostalgia hit is real. And a dance break is always needed, even in the midst of the harrows of war and the Royal Family tearing itself apart around you.

Q2: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Careful – get too close, and I might start a war just to keep you in my bedchamber.

Q3: What’s the temperature of your show?

Burning to the touch. The entire establishment is going up in flames, and preferably the King with it too. A little royal rebellion never hurt anyone, surely?

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A spicy margarita – the sharpness of a family scandal, the cutting sweetness of a friendship where not everything is as is seems with the fiery hit of a forbidden love.

    Questions answered by On-Ting, YUEN.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

David Bowie (aka Space Oddity), not just because I chose this song for my show, (SPOILER!!!), but I also foresee myself would enjoy wandering at the street of Edinburgh.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

what would it not be? Cause our show covers murder, rape, forged document, incest etc. Name a crime that our show does not cover.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

long island, cause that’s a mix of every liquor and you can find everything inside. Also, it marks the start of chaos, and our show loves and celebrates chaos. Meanwhile, it tastes so you will keep ordering.

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

Questions answered by Meltzer und Berlin Theatergruppe.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Amos Milburn, ‘One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer’ — the perfect amount to drink before seeing our show. Or indeed the equivalent amount in water, or wine, or juice, or tea, or milk….

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Grand … lavatory. Like larceny. Grand lavatory. Get it? That or triple homicide.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A cold glass of Cif mixed with vermouth, a few dashes of urine, and a cabbage leaf garnish — refreshing!

Q4: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

Apart from a distinct oval-shaped pillow dent, our show would leave a faint smell of ammonia, and a feeling of having gone to heaven and back. Was it all just a dream? I bloody hope so!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#372) with ‘The Queen Is Mad’

Questions answered by Castile Collective Ltd.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

A Compilation of Classic Disney Hits! We’re huge Disney fans, particularly Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Aladdin. You can’t beat 90s Disney for top-notch songwriting! And so much variety, there would be something to fit any mood!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

As the show that introduced you to Catherine of Aragon’s badass older sister, Joanna! As the show with those super-catchy songs that won’t stop playing in your head! As the show that inspired you to stand up against injustice! #DareToDisobey

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

When our show’s villain, King Ferdinand, writes a tragic letter of death and doom, then signs it off with a massive fanfare! What an ego that guy has.

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Grandma would LOVE when Joanna gets married to the charming Philip and they share a fairytale wedding dance. Be still, my beating heart!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#371) with ‘The Drama King Tour’

    Questions answered by Gianmarco Soresi.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

The Original Broadway Cast of Falsettos. I was introduced to this album the same summer I turned 15 and told him “You’re just mad because my dad fucked your wife before you did.” I never had a bar mitzvah but in my mind that’s when I became a man.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

That I’m trying to help my father’s dating life by posting jokes online about big his dick is.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

    Defamation.

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

The part where I say that watching a Teddy Ruxpin run out of batteries prepared me for watching her die.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#370) with ‘Jamie DSouza: Brownie’

    Questions answered by Jamie DSouza.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

The 100m record. While the Fringe is primarily an arts festival, the knowledge that I’m the greatest athlete of all time would give me a sense of confidence, maybe even an arrogance, that’d allow me to really crack on with my crowdwork, even when clearly going down a dead end.

Q2: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

I only perform the first ten minutes of the show, then I lock the doors then I insist if they want to see the rest of it they need to buy another ticket. At this point they beg me to stop and we all get to go home and call it an early night. Ideal for everyone.

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

My show would order a Mango Lassi. Because just like the show, the drink is sweet, Indian and terrible for your blood pressure.

Q4: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

In my show I reveal that I’m an incredibly sensitive lover, a great listener and am not one to shy away from commitment. This might surprised a date as I have a bit of a rep on the circuit for being one of comedy’s bad boys.
