#FringeQuickies is The Quinntessential Review’s original bite-sized Q&A series with EdFringe performers — fast, funny, and scrollable in seconds. You’ll laugh, you’ll raise an eyebrow, and you might just find your next must-see show.

New Quickies drop daily from June 16 to July 27 2025, all in one big glorious doomscroll. With over 10% of this year’s Fringe taking part, it’s one of the biggest showcases of the festival.

You’ll also spot a few boosted Quickies along the way — from performers helping to keep this whole thing running. We love them. You should too.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#255) with ‘A Drag Is Born’

    Questions answered by Edu Díaz.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

You Only Live Twice’ by Nancy Sinatra. I play it loud when I’m burned out to remind myself how lucky I am to be able to keep fighting for my dream, even with high heels on.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

In the past, I have already surprised a date with a huge spoiler: I-am-very-hairy.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Initially, everything appears to be fun and silly. But A DRAG IS BORN has the record of unexpectedly breaking hearts 🙂

  • A Fringe Quickie (#254) with ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’

    Questions answered by Kevin Short.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Have a Banana’ by The Jive Aces. Why? Because I wrote it, but The Jive Aces’ version puts a whole new swing to it. It’s fun, makes me smile, and also reminds me of the benefits of the banana. Keeps me in tune with Samuel Beckett’s ‘Krapp’ too!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

They’ll remember my insatiable appetite for bananas!

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

‘Would you like to share my banana? It’s like nirvana when you chew!”

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Grandma would love seeing me eat bananas. As the song goes: ”Don’t be a nana, have a banana, just like your nana used to do!”

  • A Fringe Quickie (#253) with ‘Juliette Burton: Going Rogue’

    Questions answered by Juliette Burton.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

The X Men theme tune – it reminds me we’re all heroes, connects me to that kid reading comic books dreaming of finding her team of fellow mutants like my Edfringe audiences and gets me ready to take on bad guys, supervillains and whatever else the Edinburgh Fringe has in store!

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

The crime of utter fandom obsession; owning too many cosplay outfits, too many comic books, and cramming too many easter eggs into one Edinburgh Fringe show.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Dating me is like dating Rogue from the X Men because thanks to everyone who has touched me I’ve grown stronger. And dating me is like dating Rogue because my power is both a gift and a challenge!

Q4: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

VIDEO GAMES and unbridled nerdy enthusiasm! The audience determines the outcome of the show via a video game – join with your own personalised avatar, play during the show then in the street-fighter style finale the climax is decided by the audience! Every show is unique!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#252) with ‘Juliette Burton: Best of Burton’

    Questions answered by Juliette Burton.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

David Bowie – Heroes because Bowie’s my idol, he’s featured in every single pre-show playlist or walk on/walk off track of mine for the past 10 years and he epitomises what I hope to bring to every show: energy, passion, refusal to adhere to status quo.

Q2: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

10 years of Edinburgh Fringes, 5 sold out seasons, 1 passionate performer… and you. It’s all been for this moment of us together. Let’s make it count.

Q3: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

The moment I went viral and what has happened since then that will shock, surprise and delight – let’s just say change doesn’t always happen instantly or in the way we imagine but whoa boy does karma come around.

Q4: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

After one night with Best of Burton you’ll be clearing out a drawer for them, giving them a door key and daydreaming while vacuuming the glitter they left on the floor.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#249) with ‘SUGAR’

Questions answered by Tomáš Kantor aka SUGAR.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

“4ever” The Veronicas. A perfect criteria satisfier. It’s giving comfort childhood nostalgia and tether to home. It’s giving undeniable pump-up get-glam shake-my-bussy bop. It’s giving “ground me in the fact that fringe will not, in fact, go 4ever, please, 4 the love of gawd.”

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

SUGAR follows an undercover overconfident genderqueer twink sugarbaby (me) going “full method” for their confessional art. Suprise daddy! This date is for the tea as well as the D! No holds barred or rather no HOLES barred: see it all hang out! Talking bout my soul obvi, or am I?

Q3: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

Sexy & funny & educational & raw? How?! Those moo-cow eyes, the voice, rippling abs, tight toosh like eugh I’m kinda horny. Wait he totally rubbed his junk on my thigh on purpose. Why do I wanna sniff & lick his pits but also swaddle him in a blanky? Help, do I dm them? (Do it!)

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

Well, my Nonna LOVES it when I jack off my cello, tongue the hell out of a plastic male inflatable doll, lead the audience in an orgasmic moaning orgy, lap dance on a daddy in the front row and pound my puss into the plush pink carpet. She’s a passionate Italian woman after all!

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

‘Open Passageways’ by All Them Witches transports me to that space where I reconnect with the core of my cause — and with it, the full state I need to stay sharp and on my game.

Q2: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

    Ideological Trespass

Q3: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

It’s a reckoning with my darkest dark.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

I want to stir what you think you already know. This isn’t just a story — it’s a challenge. If you walk away the same, I haven’t done my job.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#247) with ‘medium dead’

    Questions answered by Eleanor Shaw.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

In Rainbows by Radiohead. The most astonishing album ever made, made like a human body – vocals like skin, percussion like bones, this constant thumping heart of it, this vibration that translates the human experience of feeling. I want my show to feel like Video Tape.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

How you’d kill yourself if you had the chance or inclination. The best meal deal. The best way to kill yourself.

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

The whole show is. That’s my MO. It’s a show about suicide notes and meal deals – then the audience remembers what they’re laughing at. I don’t want them to feel ashamed. It’s funny to be uncomfortable.

Q4: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A cyanide pill. Or an ice cold beer at 11am (a la Anthony Bourdain).

For the hype… Work It by Marie Davidson – getting those high kicks ready!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

6 dancers, 50 costumes and a thousand images… not a bad night out.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

    Bbz, I slashed a painting…
