#FringeQuickies is The Quinntessential Review’s original bite-sized Q&A series with EdFringe performers — fast, funny, and scrollable in seconds. You’ll laugh, you’ll raise an eyebrow, and you might just find your next must-see show.

New Quickies drop daily from June 16 to July 27 2025, all in one big glorious doomscroll. With over 10% of this year’s Fringe taking part, it’s one of the biggest showcases of the festival.

You’ll also spot a few boosted Quickies along the way — from performers helping to keep this whole thing running. We love them. You should too.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#305) with ‘Tales From Your Queer Elder’

Questions answered by Lucia August/Everybody Can Dance.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. At 70+, I’ve survived being “too fat to dance” and divorce from a woman I was bonded to for 16 lifetimes in an extraterrestrial ceremony. Gloria gets it – we’re fierce and not going anywhere!

Q2: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

Hey gorgeous, Let’s talk aging, death, and those secrets you thought were buried. I’m 70+, fearless, and brought snacks for after the existential makeover.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

Breaking and entering people’s emotional walls, grand theft of family secrets, and aggravated assault on comfort zones. Multiple counts of forcing feelings about mortality while wearing sequins.

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

hey u up?? that weird thing u do that u think no one sees?? WE ALL SEE IT AND ITS ADORABLE also ur grandma just texted me from heaven she says hi and she’s proud ok don’t ignore this 💕✨

Questions answered by stephen catling .

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Undercover: complete by dead on a sunday. it is a comfort as the tone is heavy but strangely comforting with it’s morose tone (to give an idea it sounds like Bob’s Burger doing goth/emo music) , it’s cover of dammit (after dark) which is a fusion of dammit by blink 182 & Mr.Kitty

Q2: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

wild memories and a pleasing but strong scent and probably a toothbrush and maybe some flowers that you like.

Q3: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

arson because it is never an answer but question and the answer is yes

Q4: What’s the temperature of your show?

hot and cold, yes and no, it’s in and it’s out, it’s up and then it’s down. Expect moments on poignance and clarity followed by madness and then back like a bipolar swing. Its basically sweet and sour chicken.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#303) with ‘Jess Robinson: Your Song – Elton Reimagined’

    Questions answered by Jess Robinson.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

It would be my version of “I’m Still Standing” as Barbra Streisand. It’s defiant, fabulous, and slightly ridiculous — which is also how I plan to get through August. Plus, if I hear it, it means I’ve made it to my show on time.

Q2: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

“WHY ARE ELTON AND DAVID REFUSING TO ADOPT ME???” I’m in a sequin cape on Cowgate eating cheesy chips and crying. COME TO MY SHOW TOMORROW. It’s at 6.05. Bring Strepsils. BTW who is this?

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

A Rocket Man: rainbow layers, a glitter rim, lemon, honey, and a dash of coconut for the vocal cords. Served warm and steaming, like a camp medicinal potion. Tastes like joy, leaves you slightly dizzy, and might make you cry.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

As the woman who made Elton As the woman who made Elton sing like Britney, Billie Eilish and Kate Bush — all in one breath. Also possibly as the person who high-kicked their pint over during The Bitch Is Back. Sorry in advance.

Questions answered by The Creative Martyrs.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

4’33” by John Cage, it is a piece of music that always seems to capture its environment wherever that may be.

Q2: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

Coffee. Lots of coffee. Espresso in quadruples. Extra variations (milk, ice, alcohol, more coffee, dispair) welcome but not required.

Q3: What’s your trick for leaving your audience begging for more — or begging you to stop?

    Bumming

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

    Bumming

  • A Fringe Quickie (#301) with ‘Michael Elsener: How to Live in Paradise’

    Questions answered by Michael Elsener.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

I’d take “Royal Highness” by Tom Grennan. It’s an energetic, soul-pop anthem about an extraordinary encounter with an extraordinary being. The song celebrates uniqueness, being real. I think being truly real lights a fire inside you. This track gives me a huge boost.

Q2: What’s the temperature of your show?

I like comedians who make you feel you’re in their living room. So I’d say: a cool breeze you’d like to enjoy for longer than you expected.

Q3: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

I think she’d love the moment I talk about liking guys. I never told her directly, but I’m sure she knew. She always gave me that special smile when we walked past a handsome man.

Q4: If your show had a criminal record, what would it be for?

I think you get some great laughs seeing my show. So definitely for making people pee in public spaces.

Questions answered by Josh Elton .

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Mate, I have Spotify. I don’t mean to brag but I have premium and everything. If I could only listen to one song for the whole fringe? I would blow my brains out by day 10.

Q2: Is your show the type to leave a toothbrush — or just some wild memories and a dent in the pillow?

Excuse me, my show is a professional, okay. My show wouldn’t leave a toothbrush, meds, clothes or ANYTHING at the crime scene.

Q3: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

If I could rearrange the alphabet I’d put U and I together – in Room 4 at Hoots on Grassmarket at 8PM to watch Josh Elton: Away with Faires. Oh you like that? You little minx. Wanna get a room? Specifically Room 4 at Hoots on… where are you going?!

  • A Fringe Quickie (#299) with ‘Adult Panto [Unscripted]’

    Questions answered by Matty Hurst.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Bat Out Of Hell! Because I know every lyric and it’s a 10 minute masterpiece with so many waves of emotion musically and lyrically!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

With sore cheeks from laughing, glitter in places they don’t remember visiting, and absolutely no idea how Dick Whittington ended up in a threesome with the Genie and the Big Bad Wolf.

Q3: If your show had a safe word, what would it be? And would it use it?

Safe word: “He’s behind you!” Would you use it? Absolutely not.

Q4: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

Oi babe… what if Snow White was a dominatrix and Buttons ran a kebab van? 🫣 Anyway, I’m outside. Let me in x

  • A Fringe Quickie (#298) with ‘Furniture Boys’

    Questions answered by Emily Weitzman.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Édith Piaf’s “Non, je ne regrette rien.” I don’t speak French, but I believe she’s saying that no, she regrets nothing. Well, I hope to survive the Fringe regretting nothing, too. (Plus, another Édith Piaf song plays in FURNITURE BOYS, during which I go on a date with a chair.)

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

“You just might go home and hug your favorite ottoman,” one critic wrote. You’ll wake up cuddling your couch – perhaps, even, a velour-gasm. You’ll look around at this place you’ve always lived in and see it anew. You’ll hope that your furniture does not let you down.

Q3: If your show sent a drunk text at 3am, what would it say?

Boys and furniture are more similar than you think. Boys and chairs have arms and legs and backs! You can turn on a lamp and you can turn on a boy! You can go to bed with a boy and you can go to bed with a bed! (Except I may or may not be texting a futon.)

Q4: If your show had a pick-up line, what would it be?

“What makes you tick?” – to the grandfather clock in my show that I found on the street. But it doesn’t work out – he’s a bit too old for me. (He’s a grandfather!)

  • A Fringe Quickie (#297) with ‘Shake It Away: The Ann Miller Story’

    Questions answered by Kayla Boye.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

Irving Berlin’s “Shaking the Blues Away” – That’s the theme of the show, and a great mindset to have as we try to entertain Fringe audiences amidst the craziness of this world!

Q2: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

    A burst of joy!

Q3: If your show walked into a bar, what would it order?

    Champagne – sparkly and bubbly

Q4: What moment in your show would your grandma absolutely hate (or absolutely love)?

When the tap dancing starts – she’d love it.

  • A Fringe Quickie (#296) with ‘JELLO BRAIN’

    Questions answered by Natalie Grove.

Q1: If you could take just one record with you to survive the Fringe — your ultimate comfort, hype, or grounding track — what would it be, and why?

ROCKY: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE 1976…. Specifically “Gonna Fly Now.” This movie and the music get me so hype. I really relate to Rocky’s journey with taking my show to the Fringe, and the music reminds me about the joy of the fight.

Q2: What’s something your show reveals about you that might surprise a date?

that I am obsessed with the brain and know exactly how an orgasm affects it like more than your typical neurologist.

Q3: What’s the moment in your show that makes people laugh when they’re not sure they’re supposed to?

When I say that my mom sounded like she was a child telling me how sad Finding Nemo was when I told her she was diagnosed with Early on-set Alzheimer’s.

Q4: How will the audience remember you the morning after?

As a total freak possibly doomed with Early on-set Alzheimer’s genes who just wants a big person to lay on top of her.
