#SNAPCHATZ Episode 10: A quirky quintessence of Fringe comedians

Image

Today’s brave band of would-be indelible Fringe memories are brought to you by three unique Fringe comedians: musical square peg Matty Hutson, Stand-Up Pole-adept Siân Docksey, and Don Biswas with his Disorganised Revolution.

#SNAPCHATZ is simple. I challenge all 2023 Fringe performers & creators to answer 3 questions and to sell you, dear reader, their show. Their answers are tossed into a digital hat, and published in quick-read trios. It’s a Fringe goer’s fastest and safest (no guerilla flyering!) way to find someone, or something, new.

If you like what you read, you’re intrigued, you bark a laugh or shed a tear, or you suspect some risk of lasting trauma, then click those links and buy a ticket, or 10!

Who are you/what is your show?

I’m Matty Hutson – a musical comedian with the voice of an angel and the body of divorced bookmaker. My show is called Don’t Hold Back – and it’s about trying, and failing to fit in. I didn’t want to be another musical comedian playing the acoustic guitar – so I’ve learned a load of new instruments especially for the show – and I’m even asking the crowd to join me in a number or too. No previous experience required.

What sets your show apart from the rest?

The stage is filled with loads of instruments – and I’m playing everything that I can live, and through my loop pedal. I always like the music in my show to be a strong as the comedy and I’m excited for people to see the results.

Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?

I love it when musicians come to the show – I spend a lot of time working on small details in the production and when a crusty man wearing a satchel gives me the nod I can sleep easy that night.

Who are you/what is your show?

Hello I’m Siân, I’m a bisexual pole dancing comedian from Belgium. My show is an hour of hanging off a stick to try and banish your existential dread, a bit of stand-up, and tax advice.

What sets your show apart from the rest?

It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a comedy show but with more thigh burn, probably.

Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?

The honest answer is: everyone. Seriously please buy a ticket, Edinburgh is so expensive it’s killing me and I’m a tired woman in my mid-thirties, not some thrusting young buck in a uni sketch group. More specifically – I’d love people to see the show who never thought pole dancing was “for” them. That applies to me, too. No-one is more surprised that I’m doing this than me. Personality-wise I’m more like a frazzled maths teacher than a freewheeling stick dancer but, here we are.

Don Biswas – The Revolution Will Be Disorganised

Who are you/what is your show?

My name is Don Biswas a stand-up comedian whose Edinburgh show is called The Revolution Will Be Disorganised. The show is about taking a look at politics through the lens of dyspraxia and autism. The show takes a passionate if uncoordinated stab at the big issues: from the cost-of-living crisis to conspiracy theories. Plus I will be talking about my overbearing Indian mother. She is the bain of my life.

What sets your show apart from the rest?

My show will obviously be very political but also very gag heavy like a oneliner comedian. So, if you don’t agree with what I say don’t worry there’s always be a punchline around the corner. Well, hopefully. So it’s for audience members of all political spectrums. People who are are leftwing, rightwing or centre. And it’s not every you see a show with a slightly autistic, dyspraxic comic talking conspiracies among other political hot topics.

Your dream audience turns up to see the show, who’s watching?

My dream audience would be my comedy heroes Bill Hicks and George Carlin. They were comics who just spoke their truth and didn’t care what others thought of them. Other than that a comic who is mainly leftwing I would like to play to an audience who mainly don’t agree with my politics. Hopefully, if they enjoy it then it will bring people of all political spectrums closer together.
